2024 OET medicine exam 후기: OET for ECFMG pathways, USMLE

24-04-06 Prometric center에서 시험을 봤습니다.

 

 

24-04-27 결과를 확인하라고 e-mail이 왔고, OET hub에서 합격한 것을 확인했습니다.

 

 

 

 

이 글에서는 OET 준비 과정에 대해서 간략히 정리해보겠습니다.

 

 

 

Prometric center 접수 및 가는 방법

OET를 computer-based로 응시하려면 prometric center에서 접수를 해야 합니다. Computer base가 결과가 조금 더 빨리 나온다고 들었습니다. 

 

 

접수하는 사이트는 OET Hub이며, 주소는 다음과 같습니다.

위 주소로 찾아서 가면 주택가로 생각되는 곳에 prometric center가 떡하니 있습니다. 건물 외부에 엘리베이터가 있으며 2층으로 가시면 됩니다.

 

 

 

건물 주차장은 이용할 수 없습니다. 저는 지방에서 올라갔기 때문에 대중교통으로 방문했습니다. 근처 사용할 수 있는 주차장은 순천향대학교 병원 주차장, 한남유수지 공영주차장, 한나동 공영주차장이 있습니다.

 

 

 

 

 

준비 기간, 공부자료, english background

준비기간: 4주

 

 

 

공부자료: Joan Ashcraft 3회, E2 language mini mock test

 

 

저는 어린 시절 3년 정도 외국에서 지낸 경험이 있습니다. 따라서 listening과 reading은 큰 어려움이 없었습니다. 하지만 speaking과 writting은 한국에 돌아와서 안 쓴 지 10년이 넘었기에 스스로 느끼는 부담감이 있었습니다.

 

 

접수

시험공부는 접수부터 시작합니다. 후기를 보니 3주 정도 준비한 분들이 있어서 넉넉하게 4주를 잡았습니다.

E2 language, OET는 youtube channel에 OET와 관련된 영상들이 많이 있습니다. 그 영상들만 하루에 2-3개씩 봐도 도움이 되었습니다. 

 

 

또한 E2 OET 유튜브 영상을 보다가 E2 language에서 하는 mini mock test에 대해서 알게 되었는데, 시험 치기 전에 어느 정도 실력을 파악하는데 도움이 되었습니다. 한번 해보시는 것을 추천드립니다.

OET 공식 웹사이트에는 sample test를 제공하고 있습니다. 실력을 파악하는 데에도 도움이 되고 시험을 준비할 때에도 좋은 자료가 됩니다.

 

 

 

 

구체적인 시험 준비과정 

 

Listening

A

B, C로 갈수록 난이도가 높아지므로 최대한 part A에서 많은 점수를 받게 노력했습니다.

 

 

Listening A는 집중력을 유지하는 것도 중요하지만, speaker가 어느 내용으로 넘어가는지 확인하는 것이 중요합니다. 빈칸 앞뒤에 있는 단어를 잘 보고 어느 시점에 정답이 나올지를 예측하고 있어야 놓치지 않습니다.

 

 

 

B & C

B & C에서는 answer choices 보다는 question에 집중해서 speaker가 무엇을 말하는지 이해하는데 초점을 두었습니다.

 

 

 

 

Reading

A

Listening과 마찬가지로 B,C로 갈수록 난이도가 높아지므로 최대한 A에서 점수를 많이 가져갈 수 있도록 노력했습니다.

 

 

B & C

Answer choice 보다는 지문 자체의 의도를 이해하는데 집중했습니다. Highlight 기능을 사용해서 문제에서 묻는 것을 강조해서 지문에서 해당사항을 찾는데 도움이 되도록 했습니다. E2 OET의 공략 영상들이 도움이 되었습니다.

Speaking

 

Mini mock test에서 생각보다 높은 470점이라는 고득점을 받아서 조금 당황했던 시험입니다. 가장 걱정했지만 생각보다 어렵지는 않았습니다. 중요한 점은 주어진 task를 다 해결하지 않아도 고득점을 할 수 있다는 것입니다.

 

 

 

환자가 자신의 문제를 말할 수 있게 질문을 하고 그에 맞는 리액션과 다시 합당한 질문을 하는 것이 중요합니다. 즉, 혼자서 얼마나 유창하게 말하느냐 보다는 얼마나 효과적인 communication을 하느냐에 초점이 잡혀있는 시험입니다. 실제로 환자를 볼 때 유용한 시험이라는 생각이 들었습니다.

What not to do

- wait for the interlocutor to start the role-play

- introduce yourself if it is not necessary

- start the role-play without any kind of introduction

 

 

If it is clear from the role card that you already know the patient, or the role-play starts mid-way through the consultation, you do not need to introduce yourself.

Ex1) OK, Frank. Now that I have completed the examination, I'd like to discuss my findings. Is that OK with you?

EX2) Hello Michelle, thank you for coming to see me today. I understand you've been having some problems with your vision?

 

 

If it is your first time meeting the patient, briefly introduce yourself and check the patient's name.

Ex) I understand that changing medications can be daunting Mrs. Smith. After all, you have been taking the same medications for quite a while. But I want to reassure you that the new medication is much safer, and will be much more effective than your current medication. How does that sound?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Writting

Mini mock test에서 315라는 턱걸이 점수를 받아서 조금 걱정이 되었던 파트입니다. 단어수가 많아서 감점이 되었다는 피드백을 받고 최대한 요약을 하려고 하였습니다. 하지만 시험 칠 때도 충분히 요약을 하지 못해서 총 240 단어정도 썼습니다. 인사와 마치는 말을 제외하면 230 단어 정도 쓴 것 같습니다. 

 

 

 

연습한 양식은 다음과 같습니다. OET Test에 보면 예시 편지들이 나와있으니 그 표현과 양식을 그대로 사용하는 것이 좋습니다.

후기 요약

처음 OET를 준비할 때 다른 step들에 비해서 얕잡아 본 경향이 있습니다. 실제로 시험 접수만 해놓고 1주일 전까지는 하루 1-2시간 정도만 공부했습니다. 1주 전부터 긴장이 되어서 Ashcraft 선생님의 강의와 E2 mini mock test를 결제해서 풀었습니다. 결과적으로 합격을 하게 되었지만 조금 일찍 Ashcraft 선생님과 교육을 시작했다면 덜 불안했을 것이라고 생각됩니다.
